We are proud to offer patients our experience and expertise in liposuction, the single most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the U.S. today. Liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat that has not responded to diet and exercise from the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. Liposuction not only offers the opportunity to slim and contour chubby areas of the body; by removing the fat cells, it also ensures that these areas will not accumulate fatty deposits in the future.
Dr. Austin understands that all patients are different, both in their body shapes and in what they wish to achieve with liposuction. He takes as much time as necessary during every pre-operative consultation to learn what each patient wants liposuction to do for them, and to decide which technique is best. In this way, our patients enjoy customized treatments designed with his or her specific goals in mind.
The liposuction procedure begins with the injection of a solution composed of saline (salt water), a local anesthetic called lidocaine, and a small amount of adrenaline to decrease bruising and bleeding. This is known as either tumescent or super-wet technique, depending on the ratio of the fluid to the fatty tissue being removed.
Once this solution has been introduced into the area planned for suction-assisted lipectomy (SAL) or liposuction, a tiny incision is made in an inconspicuous area to allow for access for liposuction. In SAL, a cannula (small tube) is inserted and moved back and forth beneath the skin, breaking up the fat layer and suctioning it out.
The liposuction procedure may last from one to five hours, depending on the amount of fat being removed. Dr. Austin will use either local anesthesia or general anesthesia, again depending on the size of the area(s) being treated as well as several other factors. Dr. Austin will discuss which method is best for you during your pre-operative consultation.
After liposuction surgery, drainage tubes, compression garments and antibiotics may be needed to facilitate the healing process. Patients are encouraged to walk as soon as they are able, and many return to work within a few days. Strenuous activity should be avoided for about a month.
Changes in contour can be noticed early after surgery, and improvement often continues as swelling subsides during the first three months.

Also known as brachioplasty, an arm lift removes excess skin and fat from the upper arms to leave them looking younger and more attractive. The upper arms tend to become loose and flabby with age as skin loses its elasticity, which can then become more apparent with dramatic weight loss. An arm lift improves the appearance of the arms and helps patients feel more comfortable wearing short sleeve shirts and showing off their slim new look.
During an arm lift procedure, an incision is made in the armpit to remove excess fat and tighten the skin and tissue in the area. Patients with larger fat deposits may need a longer scar that runs from the elbow to the armpit. This procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia. After fat is removed, the arms may be wrapped or placed in compression garments to promote quick healing and minimize side effects. Patients may experience swelling and discomfort during the first few days after surgery, but these symptoms usually subside within 7 to 10 days.

A thigh lift is performed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper legs. Candidates typically suffer from loose, inelastic skin after extreme weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often combined with others such as breastlifts, facelifts and armlifts to retain an attractive body proportion.
In a medial thigh lift (inner thigh lift), the surgical incision is made in the inner thigh along the line where the leg meets the groin. In a lateral thigh lift (outer thigh lift), the incision is made from the groin around the back of the body, so that the buttocks are lifted along with the thigh.
