Loose and sagging skin is an inevitable consequence of getting older. Regardless, it isn’t necessary to endure the frustration that jowls, flattened cheeks, and creases cause. If you address these concerns early, it also may not be necessary to consider surgical options for facial rejuvenation just yet. Here in our Salem, OR office, we’ve helped many patients regain a more youthful appearance using NovaThreads. Here, we discuss what this treatment entails.
What are NovaThreads?
NovaThreads is a modern thread lift treatment that helps restore sharper contours along the lower face. The threads are made of absorbable polydioxanone, a filament that has a long history in the field of surgery. The insertion of segments of thread into the deeper layers of the skin is especially effective at the jawline and upper neck, areas that are difficult to treat with injectables. While the threads themselves provide a temporary scaffold beneath the skin, they also stimulate neocollagenesis, or natural tissue remodeling. This secondary process lends to prolonged results from treatment.
NovaThread Treatment
Like a surgical facelift, NovaThread treatment is performed on an outpatient basis. Unlike a surgical facelift, NovaThreads don’t require general anesthesia. Before the procedure, the doctor administers a few injections of local anesthetic. This medication numbs the entire treatment area, so patients can expect a comfortable process. Once the tissue is numb, the doctor inserts threads at predetermined points, marked with a surgical marker, and passes each thread to a higher exit point on the face. When the needle is removed, a string of dissolvable filament is left behind. The threads “stick” to surrounding tissue to achieve a lifted appearance. Starting right away, the body engages in a healing response that rebuilds collagen around the sutures.
PDO NovaThreads dissolve over 4 to 6 months. During this time, the skin is continually repairing itself. This self-repair involves thickening and tightening of the layers of skin. The effects of treatment can last a year or longer.
