What are PDO Novathreads?

An excellent and effective medical device used to temporarily enhance the appearance of the areas that are treated” NU-LIFT and NU-MESH treatments originated from Korean medical protocols designed to control and improve tissue stimulation. The NOVATHREADS are made of a material called Polydioxanone (PDO). PDO has a safety track record in surgery and wound closure that is over a decade-long. PDO has been used for about 6 years in orthopedic surgery (frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and cosmetic skin rejuvenation). PDO gained FDA approval in 2004. Through collagen stimulation the NOVATHREADS can very effectively strengthen the contour of the face, reduce roundness, lift sagging skin in the cheeks, jowls, neck, enhance lips volume and produce an excellent eyebrow lift.

How does the treatment work?

It redefines facial contours and induces collagen production creating a temporary lifting effect that lasts for up to 18 months. Due to collagen synthesis the NOVATHREADS will form an integrated support structure for facial tissues. The stimulation effect reaches its peak 3 months later when collagen is formed around the threads.

What happens during treatment?

A local anesthetic can be injected into entry points of the Barb1&2. The NOVATHREADS will then be introduced using a sharp needle or a cannula in the required area of the human body. Your face will feel numb and your mouth may be asymmetrical for a few hours, similar to those effects felt after dental injections. Please refrain from chewing or drinking hot liquids until your face has regained full sensation. You will be able to fully resume your everyday routine and social commitments within a couple of days. NU-LIFT AND NU-MESH treatments are a tailor-made treatment, which can be adjusted to your requirements at any time. When you combine NU-LIFT or NU-MESH treatment with Fillers and Botox great results can be achieved.

When will I start seeing results?

There is an immediate improvement seen after NU-LIFT or NU-MESH treatment with a visible lift or glow in the areas treated. This will improve over a period of 1-2 months as new collagen grows between the threads and gives further lift and tightening to the skin. The NOVATHREADS gradually dissolve after about 4-6 months, but the resulting lift/skin tightening remains for another 6 to 12 months.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment time depends on many factors and size of treatment but can take between 30 to 60 minutes. NU-LIFT and NU-MESH treatments vs. Surgical Face Lift With NU-LIFT and NU-MESH there is very minimal downtime and no general anesthesia needed. The specialized needles allow small areas to be tackled effectively. As there are no incisions, stitches are not required and scarring is unlikely.

Are There Nova Thread Side Effects?

Edema (swelling), Bruising, Infection, Foreign body reaction/granuloma, Needle hematoma, Pain, Protrusion, Migration (unidirectional (Barb 1) and bidirectional cogs (Barb 2)), Facial nerve trauma or Asymmetry.

Thread lifting again? What has changed?

EVERYTHING! That’s should be the short answer to the many aesthetic physicians and surgeons who may be having flashbacks of previous thread lifts which were taken out of widespread use due to unacceptably high complication rates and results that were not lasting as long as promised.  The main difference with NovaThreads is the setting of appropriate expectations for the patient to understand that these threads are designed for temporary results, similar to injectable fillers, in fact, if properly combined with Filler or neurotoxins, it can give amazing results. Furthermore, there no needs for cuts, incisions, or anesthesia and there is virtually no downtime. The use of PDO sutures, which have been used in surgery for decades, is another important part of minimizing complications with these procedures. Additionally, emphasis will be placed on training injectors to perform the techniques safely and effectively.   We will require injectors to be formally trained in order to be able to purchase the threads for use. The threads are relatively affordable and will allow the aesthetic injector to make healthy profits even with the use of multiple threads per session. In Europe and Asia, in fact, this technique has literally been booming for the past 3 years.

Are these like the Silhouette Threads

Silhouette threads are different from NOVATHREADS. In fact, some practitioners combine both threads. Silhouette threads require local anesthesia and are anchored at a deeper level (subcutaneous fat). They require surgical skills and are made of PLLA, a different material than PDO. Silhouette a good alternative to surgery while NOVATHREADS are indicated mild to moderate skin sagginess. Silhouette threads last up to 2 years and are obviously more expensive. The absorption rate of PLLA is not entirely predictable (verify source) while PDO is.

Difference Between Novathreads and Miracu:

NOVATHREADS and are similar products, however Novathreads barbs are different from Miracu. If you compare the two threads side by side (provided an equal Gauge of the needle) you will notice that NOVATHREADS thread is much thicker. You might also notice that the barbs might look shorter. This might make you think that barbs are better, but in reality they are longer because they are cut deeper into the thread, reducing the tensile strength and making the threads more prone (during the reabsorption phase) to lose the lifting effect.
