Wrinkle-less

botox salem oregon In response to our last blog, many of you have asked, “What causes wrinkles?” Wrinkles are folds or ridges in the skin caused by habitual facial expressions, aging, sun damage, smoking, poor hydration, in addition to other  various factors. Wrinkles are divided into two  categories: surface lines and deep furrows.

As we age, the skin becomes less elastic and more fragile due to a decrease in the production of natural oils. Loss of fat in the deep layers of the tissue cause the skin to become loose and saggy. Over exposure to the sun leads to the break-down of collagen and elastin, damaging DNA. I think we are all aware by now that smoking is damaging, but did you know it causes wrinkles? Unhealthy eating habits also contribute to aging.

Anti-wrinkle treatments help to control lines that develop around the eyes, nose, chin, neck, and décolleté. The common term used today is anti-aging and the different methods available to minimize the signs of aging are lasers, fillers, Botox® and topical, anti-aging products.

Different types of lasers do different things. Some help stimulate collagen, thereby strengthening the dermal layer. Lasers can also help reduce pigmentation, minimize vessels, reduce scars and stretch marks, even out skin tone, as well as reduce unwanted hair in targeted areas.  Fillers are wonderful fro plumping up and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. Different fillers provide specific results based on individual needs. Botox® is a prescriptive medicine that is injected into the muscle, which causes relaxation, improving the look of moderate to severe frown lines, providing a noticeable difference. Topical anti-aging products support the skin from the outside in, and are essential in helping to maintain the integrity of the skin as well as provide longevity to treatments received.
